MEPCO tariffs are grouped by how a connection is used and how much power it draws.
Domestic (Protected)
Residential connections averaging 200 units or less per month — eligible for subsidized slab rates.
Tariff A-1Domestic (Non-Protected)
Residential connections that exceed 200 units in a month — billed at higher, unsubsidized slab rates.

Shops, offices, and small businesses — flat-rate structure with a fixed monthly meter charge.
Tariff A-2Industrial
Factories and manufacturing units — typically metered with peak/off-peak time-of-use rates.
Tariff B-1 / B-2 / B-3Agricultural (Tube-well)
Connections used for irrigation and tube-wells — subsidized rates to support the farming sector.
Tariff A-3Net Metering (Solar)
Consumers with a solar connection exporting surplus units back to the grid at a set buyback rate.

Why exact rupee figures aren't hard-coded here: NEPRA revises tariffs and fuel price adjustments periodically, and figures reported across different websites often conflict. Rather than risk showing you an outdated or incorrect number, we point you to your own bill or NEPRA's official notification for the exact current rate that applies to your slab. We update the structure and category information on this page regularly.
Other charges on your MEPCO bill
Your total payable amount includes more than the per-unit tariff. Here's what else is added.
Fuel Price Adjustment
A monthly variable charge reflecting the gap between actual and reference fuel costs — can be positive or negative.
General Sales Tax
Federal sales tax applied to electricity consumption charges, currently set by government policy.
Electricity Duty
A provincial duty charged as a small percentage of consumption, separate from GST.
PTV Licence Fee
A small fixed fee collected with domestic bills on behalf of Pakistan Television, as mandated by law.
Maximum Demand Indicator
The highest load drawn during the billing period — used for commercial and industrial demand-based billing.
Meter Rental Charge
A small fixed monthly charge for the metering equipment, separate from consumption charges.
Considering solar? Check the net metering buyback rate
If you export surplus solar units back to the grid, you're credited at a separate NEPRA-set buyback rate — not the standard consumption tariff.
Tariff questions, answered
A protected consumer is a domestic connection that has used 200 units or less per month, on average, over the last several billing cycles. Protected consumers pay lower, subsidized slab rates. Consuming more than 200 units in any month can move you into the non-protected category, where all your units are billed at higher rates.
Many distribution companies apply non-protected status for a rolling period (commonly around six months) once a domestic consumer exceeds 200 units in a month, even if consumption drops afterward. Check your specific billing history for confirmation.
FPA (Fuel Price Adjustment) is a monthly adjustment, set by NEPRA, that reflects the difference between actual fuel costs used for power generation and the reference cost built into the base tariff. It can increase or decrease your bill depending on the month.
The authoritative source for tariff rates is NEPRA's official website and its published determination notifications. Rates shown on informational sites, including this one, are for general guidance only — your MEPCO bill and NEPRA's notification are the final reference.
Net metering consumers are credited for surplus solar units exported to the grid at a buyback rate set by NEPRA, which is separate from the standard consumption tariff. This rate is periodically reviewed — check our Solar & Net Metering guide for details.
